Pyrotechnic

Capability

Pyrotechnic shocks are usually detailed in terms of a Shock Response Spectra (“SRS) and are expressed in terms of acceleration (g) and natural frequency (fn). Dynamic Labs can simulate Pyrotechnic shock events up to 10,000g and out to frequency of 10,000 Hz.

Test Method

Dynamic Labs utilizes an air-cannon and a beam to simulate these high frequency and high ‘g” load environments. The air-cannon accelerates a device into a beam, causing the beam to bend and to ring. The resulting time history is captured with high-speed data acquisition systems and converted to an SRS. If possible, mass simulators are used in a “dry run” to simulate the UUT’s inertia and mass characteristics, prior to the qualifying test.

This test is highly repeatable, but often requires additional set-up and data computation time. Call Dynamic Labs for details about your test.

When is it Required

Components that might experience this shock environment include devices used in satellites and launch vehicles, as stage separation and satellite ejection often involve pyrotechnic events. Components mounted in close proximity to the event or mounted on the skin of structures experiencing such an event may require testing of this type.

For more information on Pyrotechnic shock events read the following tutorial(s).
